Renewal reminder emails
Which emails a client gets before time-limited access ends, when they are sent, in which language, how to customize or turn them off per offer, and how to give earlier buyers a new renewal setting.
Renewal reminders are the emails a client receives before access bought for a limited time runs out. Each one carries a button that opens a payment page for the renewal. They apply to access that does not renew by itself: one-time prices with a fixed duration and Recurring payment prices. An automatic Subscription charges the stored card instead and sends no reminders.
Which emails are sent and when
| Reminder | Sent | Default subject |
|---|---|---|
| 14 days before | Only for access periods of at least 89 days (the list tags it Yearly plans) | ⚠️ Your access will expire in 14 days. [product] |
| 7 days before | 7 days before the access end | ⚠️ Your access will expire in 7 days. [product] |
| 3 days before | 3 days before the access end | ⚠️ Your access will expire in 3 days. [product] |
| 1 day before | The day before | ⚠️ Your access will expire tomorrow. [product] |
| On the last day | On the last day of access | ⚠️ Your access expires today. [product] |
| After access ends | Once the access has ended | Your access period has expired. [product] |
Each email goes out once. The renew button opens the checkout with the renewal price chosen for that access (see "Which price the renew button offers" below).
In which language
The buyer email language follows this chain: the offer's language, then the product's language, then your site's language, and English when none of them is set. A Polish offer therefore sends "⚠️ Twój dostęp wygasa za 7 dni. [product]". Your own copy (below) is sent as you wrote it, in one language.
Where the settings live
Open the offer's email settings
Go to Checkouts (/checkouts), open the offer, click After purchase in the top bar and
pick Emails & notifications in the left step list
(/checkouts/<offer-id>/after-purchase?step=emails).
Find the Renewal reminders section
For an offer that grants time-limited access you see Renewal reminders: "This checkout grants access for a limited time. Buyers automatically get reminders with a renewal payment link before it ends. Click an email to preview it." Below it the list of reminders (14 days before only when the offer has an access period long enough), and two switches, both on by default: Remind the buyer before access ends and Email me when a client's access ends. An offer with lifetime access or an automatic subscription has no Renewal reminders section at all.
Preview each email
Click a row to show that email in the panel on the right, with its subject, the renew button and your product name filled in. Clicking the highlighted row again returns to the purchase confirmation preview.
Write your own copy (optional)
With Remind the buyer before access ends on, fill Subject, Headline and Intro message. "Custom copy applies to every pre-expiry reminder. Leave a field empty to keep the default copy of each email. The post-expiry email keeps its default copy." The preview updates as you type. Click Save; if the product has more than one offer, choose All offers or This offer only.
Turn reminders off for this offer (optional)
Flip Remind the buyer before access ends off. The switch saves immediately and the copy fields disappear; your custom text is kept for when you switch it back on. Buyers of this offer then get no reminder emails.
Good to know
Email me when a client's access ends sends you "⚠️ Automatic end of client access [product]" whenever an access period expires. It also saves immediately.
Which price the renew button offers
The reminder is only sent when the access has something to renew with. The choice is made on the price (price form, When the access period ends) or on a manual grant (Advanced: when access ends):
| Option | Reminders | Renew button opens |
|---|---|---|
| End access | No | Nothing; access simply ends |
| Offer the same purchase price for renewal | Yes | The price the client originally paid |
| Offer a chosen renewal price | Yes | The Renewal price you picked |
| Offer the current prices of this product | Yes | The offer with its current prices |
A time-limited free grant always ends without reminders. The follow-up offer can stay open for a limited window ("How long the follow-up offer stays open"): while there are still active clients, without limit, for N days after the access end, or until a specific date.
Change the setting for clients who already bought
Each client's access keeps the When the access period ends setting of the price at the moment of purchase. When you change it on a one-time price with a fixed access period and click Save changes, Zanfia counts the earlier buyers of that price who still have the previous setting. If there are any, it asks Apply to existing customers too (N)?:
| Button | Result |
|---|---|
| Apply to existing | Their access gets the new setting, and a message confirms New setting saved for existing customers: N. Their reminders and renew button follow the new setting from then on. |
| New customers only | Only people who buy from now on get the new setting. Earlier buyers keep the old one. |
A client whose access already has a different setting than the price's previous one, for example one you set by hand, is left as it is. With no earlier buyers on the old setting, the question does not appear.
What a client sees when renewal is not available
A client whose access ends with End access and who opens a renewal link sees This access can't be renewed here, with the explanation that the access was set to end without a renewal offer and a suggestion to contact you. To let them renew, choose a renewal option on the price and click Apply to existing when asked.
